The City of Portland introduced the RecycleWorks Award in 2006 (formerly called BlueWorks) in order to engage businesses in doing their part to reduce the municipality's garbage output. RecycleWorks businesses serve as a role modes by reducing, reusing, recycling, making sustainable purchasing choices and going beyond recycling by participating in at least one other sustainable practice.
